Barr Colonists

As an addendum to Shoal Lake Minute #34 about the Barr colonists, I came across the lyrics to a song written about Isaac Barr portraying him as a scoundrel: “Barr, Barr, wily old Barr/He’ll do you as much as he can/You bet he will collar/Your very last dollar/In the valley of the Saskatchewan.” This was originally from a book called Muddling Through: The Remarkable Story of the Barr Colonists by Lynne Bowen but I found it in Sharon Butala’s fascinating exploration into the Western Canadian psyche called Lilac Moon: Dreaming of the Real West.
